I mentioned yesterday that with our new sectional in the living room, we’ve got a big, wide open wall that is dying for a new piece of furniture. When we moved in, I hung some artwork – gallery wall style – on it, but it’s time for something new. But what?
I’ve narrowed it down to two options: a credenza or a console. Each option has it’s own pros and cons, so let’s break it down.
Console
But not JUST a console! A console with two benches pushed up underneath it. A sectional is plenty of seating for us, but when we entertain and have friends over, having extra seating to pull out would be convenient. We could potentially keep two benches on the other side of our coffee table all the time, but being able to push them out of the way when they aren’t being used would be nice.
Pros:
1. Benches for extra seating
2. Surface area for lamps
Cons:
1. Lack of storage
Credenza
Credenza, sideboard, buffet or server. Call it what you will, but I’m referring to a long, low cabinet with closed storage and a bit of surface space on top, which would be numbers one and two on the list of pros. Though these are traditionally found in a dining room, a credenza is a handy piece of furniture to have in a living room too.
Pros:
1. Storage
2. Surface space for lamps
Cons:
1. No space for benches
